Hi, do you know, can regular yeast be used in my bread machine? And also, why is it that bread machine recipes call for "bread machine" yeast?

Yes, regular yeast can be used. Bread machine yeast was developed specifically with baking and the bread machine in mind. Bread machine yeast is not as sensitive to temperature as regular active yeast. It will multiply and grow at lower temperatures.
