Bread Machine – Cuban Bread

Where can you find great Cuban Bread?  Although both Miami and Tampa, Florida claim to be the home of the best, you don't have to travel that far.  With the right Cuban bread recipe and a few tips, you can bake great tasting Cuban bread in your own little home bakery.

Ingredients you will need: bread.
3 cups of flour                       1 ¾ cups of water (warm)
2 tsp brown sugar                 2 tsp yeast
½ tsp salt                              1 Egg mixed with 1 tsp of water

1.   Before proceeding, check your bread machine’s owner manual to determine the preferred order for adding ingredients.
2.   If none are noted, begin by adding water to your bread pan. Sift in the flour slowly.  Add your sugar and yeast.  Mix then add salt.
3.   Depending on your bread machine, select the “dough” cycle.  Begin.
4.   Once completed, remove dough, place on a floured cookie sheet.  Slice in half.
5.   Each piece of dough should be rolled into a loaf with tapered ends.
6.   Add 2 -3 diagonal slashes to the top of loaves.                                                                      Creative Commons License photo credit: kathryn in stereo
7.   Cover; allow to rise 15 minutes or so.
8.   Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.   Add a small bowl of hot water to bottom shelf.
9.   Mix 1 tsp of water with 1 egg.  Brush lightly onto bread.
10. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a golden brown.
11. Cool on wire rack.

Great tasting Cuban bread.  Enjoy!
