Bread Machine – French Bread Recipe

Need a great French bread recipe?  Look no further.  If you have ever been to France you know how delicious French bread is.  Once you have mastered the art of making French bread, your family will ask for it all the time.  Just follow these simple instructions and you are on your way.

Ingredients you will need:
My First Attempt at Baguettes2 ¾ cups of flour (white)                                     1 ½ tsp salt
¼ cup of flour (all-purpose)                                1 tsp sugar
1 ¼ cups of water                                               1 tsp of instant dry yeast

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F

Let’s begin by mixing our ingredients in the bread machine’s bread pan.

1.    Add water to the pan.  Sprinkle flour in covering the water slowly.
2.    Add the yeast and sugar, mix.

4.    Set your bread machine to “French dough” or the equivalent. Start.
5.    Flour a cookie sheet. Remove dough from machine, punch it down on cookie sheet.
6.    Divide in half, knead, punch down again into a rectangular shape (8X3).
7.    Starting with a corner, slowly roll up each rectangle. Stretch each roll to a length of about 11 inches.
8.    Place rolls on a towel separated by folds.  Cover, allow rolls to rise doubling in size.
9.    Place rolls back onto cookie sheet.  Cut 3-4 diagonals along the top of each roll (regular intervals)
10.  Carefully spray the inside of oven with water to steam up. Place rolls in oven. Bake 15-20 minutes.
11.  Remove when rolls are a golden brown/crisp.
12.  Set rolls on wire rack.  Allow to cool.
