Homemade bread is one of the healthiest things that you can do for your family. This is because store bought bread often has preservatives and dough conditioners that make it last a long time, which is not only not natural but not good for you either. Whether you are making your bread by hand, rolling out the dough and shaping it or using a bread machine, it is, by far, one of the best health choices you can make to your diet.

The four basic ingredients that you need to make bread are flour, water, salt and yeast. Whether you are using a packaged, dry active yeast or wild yeast- collected from the air or a piece of fruit or vegetable, it is entirely up to you. But to make a good, healthy bread these are the only things that you need to make a loaf of bread. Wild yeast is the best thing for you because it is a natural yeast that comes from the air or other foods. Often times, a dry active yeast is chemically treated so that it stays dry.

The better quality of flour that you use, the better bread you will have. Whether you are using an all purpose flour or a bread flour makes all the difference. The protein content of the flour will be much higher in a bread flour making it not only better for you but the bread will rise sooner and take less time to bake. If you can use organic products, that is all the better for your bread and your health.
